A primary care medical clinic and a university counseling center. We are an
outpatient only facility.
3) Time devoted to training in behavioral emergencies
Training occurs as part of orientation to clinical policies & procedures
of the agency during 3 week structured orientation to the agency at the beginning
of internship. We also provide a half-day workshop on critical incident stress
management. Interns participate with senior staff in critical incident interventions.
4) Formal didactic training in evaluation and management
Yes. As part of initial orientation. A weekly clinical consultation hour is
available with staff psychiatrist, clinical director, and other staff for
crisis consultation. Half-day workshop on critical incident.

16-week rotation of one 8-hour shift per week. First 10 weeks are spent on
our 24/7 walk-in psychiatric emergency service, last 6 weeks are spent in
the field on the Mobile Crisis Unit

Yes. Dual supervision on ES/MW rotation. They begin as observers, then as
junior partners, then, if they have the skill, are given the lead in cases.
While supervision is assigned for the entirety of every 8-hour shift, we also
pair interns with other ES/MW clinicians & get exposure to a variety of
styles and theoretical approaches. We also pair them with psychiatrists to
learn about somatic causes of mental health symptoms and about psychotropics.
