A
Letter From the Editor
Steve
Gravenkemper, Ph.D.
Special thanks this
edition to John Deleray, Eric Summons and Phyllis Watts for
serving as contributors to The psychology of consulting to
small businesses article and to Nancy Polk, Carl Robinson and
Randy White for serving as contributors to the Sometimes
runners stumble: Coaching derailing executives article. Their contributions reinforce the value of the
members-speaking-to-members format we have created in the Spotlight
series.
This will be last edition
as editor of The Consulting
Psychologist. My goal from the beginning in co-creating an online
newsletter with Steve Kincaid, was to produce a publication
that served as both a resource to members on key consulting issues
and presented important news of interest to members from the
Society of Consulting Psychology. In addition, we hoped to take a step forward in
building a sense of community and ownership within the Society of
Consulting Psychology by incorporating perspectives and
contributions from a diverse set of members.
The enthusiastic response
to the new format exceeded my expectations! Readership from the first online newsletter to the second
doubled. APA
recognized the newsletter as a model for other divisions. We were successful in publishing a preview of the
Mid-Winter Conference program for the first time last year,
enabling members to see the program content before attending the
conference. The
Spotlight on e-consulting article drew interest from an outside
organization that made it available through another distribution
channel, crediting the Society of Consulting Psychology with
authorship. We have
built a library of five articles on key consulting issues as part
of our Spotlight series. I envision that this library will
continue to grow and serve as a valuable resource for members.
Most rewarding has been
the individual e-mails that members took time to write! I received approximately 25 – 30 emails after the last
online newsletter edition enthusiastically supporting this new
format. Many members
related that they now view the newsletter as a valuable resource
and have found the contributions by their peers in the Spotlight
series to be helpful and informative in their practice of
consulting psychology. These
communications have served as powerful confirmation that the new
course that Steve and I charted for the online newsletter, as a membership-focused
publication, was successful.
Thanks again for your
support! I hope to see you in Scottsdale, Arizona for an exciting and
informative Mid-Winter Conference put together by David Dunning
and his team. If
you are interested in editing the newsletter or know of anyone you
might like to nominate, please e-mail Dick Diedrich, at the
following e-mail address, rcdiedrich@hotmail.com.
