Many U.S.
universities offer integrated programs of courses and experiences in
psychology designed to prepare the student for Applied Experimental and
Engineering Psychology careers, and the list is growing. Also, many
schools offer specialized training in the related field of Human
Factors and Ergonomics.
Many
psychology departments have courses, concentrations, or programs in
Applied Experimental and Engineering Psychology. While programs vary,
all place heavy emphasis on research methodology, experimental design,
measurement, statistics, computer skills, verbal skills, and human
performance functions (e.g., sensory processes, perception, attention,
learning, memory, decision processes, motor skills). Many programs
offer courses in engineering and design techniques and provide
internships, practical research participation or other opportunities
for hands-on experience.
For
a list of programs and courses, see the publication: Graduate Study
in Psychology available from the American Psychological Association
or your university library. See also the listing of Graduate
Programs accessible here on the Home page of the Division 21
web site.
