Focus of This Year’s Conference
Presentations at this year’s Southeastern Eco conference
will revolve around the theme of Social and Cultural
Dimensions of Health. This theme encompasses the
role of social, cultural, and environmental influences on
physical and psychological well-being. We invite presentations
which explore the influence of social, cultural, and environmental
factors on health, such as exposure and vulnerability to
disease, risk-taking behaviors, health promotion efforts,
and access to, availability of, and quality of health care.
Health issues may be explored in relation to issues of race/ethnicity,
gender, socioeconomic status, and other dimensions of diversity.
This area of focus highlights factors that contribute to
health disparities (including both individual and system-level
factors), factors that promote healthy development in the
face of stress, and ways of reducing health disparities
at the individual, family, and community levels.
