Division 3 Graduate Student Representative Message – Dan Brooks Hi all. My name is Dan Brooks. I will be serving as your Division 3 student representative for 2007-2009. I am a third-year graduate student at the University of Iowa, where I study mechanisms of perception and cognition in animals (pigeons and bonobos) and humans with Dr. Ed Wasserman. Although Rebecca’s enthusiasm for increasing student support in Division 3 will be tough to match, I would like to encourage all Division members and fellows to discuss the benefits of an APA membership with their student colleagues as well as to sponsor new graduate student members. If you, or someone you know, are interested in joining the Division as a student member, then please visit http://www.apa.org/divisions/div3/Application.htm for more information. And now to official business: The first year of the poster competition at the APA convention in San Francisco was quite a success. There were 28 total posters, 14 of which were eligible for the competition. The 1st winner was Amanda Hege for her poster "Effect of Mood on Inadvertent Plagiarism." The 2nd place winner was Marc Richard for his poster "Sequencing Movement: Learning a Pattern of Directions in the SRT." Please join me in thanking and congratulating our winners as well as all of those who participated. I look forward to communicating with you throughout the upcoming year. If at any time you have questions or comments about Division 3, your student membership, or anything else, then please feel free to contact me at daniel-brooks@uiowa.edu. Enjoy the start of the fall semester! PsychDrollery (Humor from members and the internet)
