Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities

Division 33

History

Division 33 of the American Psychological Association is an organization of psychologists concerned with research and practice in the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The field of developmental disabilities has been characterized by rapid changes in technologies and research opportunities over recent years. In recognition of the breadth of conditions that are now recognized to constitute developmental disabilities, the division changed its name from Mental Retardation to Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities in 1988 and to Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities in 2007.
