Fellows

Become a Fellow of Division 35!
The Division 35 Fellows Committee is seeking
nominations and applications for
Fellow status in the Division.
Self-nominations are welcome.

Fellows Committee Chair:
Asuncion Miteria Austria, PhD

Next Deadline: January 15, 2010

Two Paths to Fellow

There are two paths to Fellow status in the Division:

First, members of the Division 35 who are APA members, but are not  Fellows of APA, may apply for Fellow status in  Division 35. They are known as “New Fellow” applicants and must meet  both APA criteria and Division 35 criteria for fellow status.

Second, any member of Division 35 who is already a current Fellow of APA may apply to become a Fellow of the division. These applicants are known as “Current Fellows.” Current fellows are only evaluated by the Division Fellows Committee.

To see a list of current fellows, please click here. Current Fellows are good resources for information about being and becoming a Fellow. Letters from current Fellows are also required for those applying for New Fellow status.

APA Fellow Criteria
APA criteria include:

  1. Five (5) years of acceptable professional experience beyond receipt of the doctoral degree.
  2. Membership in APA for at least one year
  3. Unusual and outstanding contributions that have had national or international impact in psychology.

Division 35 Fellow Criteria
Division 35 requires evidence of unusual and outstanding contributions that have had national or international impact in the psychology of women. "Unusual and outstanding contributions" with respect to scholarly publications, for example, should include evidence of citations. Leadership in Division 35 and other psychological associations are also relevant. In either case, evidence of accumulation of impact and performance over time is required.

Process for New Fellows
Applicants for New Fellow status in Division 35 should obtain  information and forms from the Chair of the Division Fellows Committee. Nominees must have their applications sent in to the fellows chair by the set deadline, which generally  falls in  late December or  early January.  This due date is published on the website and in the division newsletter in the fall. These candidates’ applications are evaluated by  the Division Committee; those receiving a positive recommendation will have their applications reviewed by the APA Fellows Committee.  Fellow status is granted by the APA  Fellows Committee.

Process for Current Fellows
Current Fellows of APA from other divisions may apply for Division 35 status by sending a current c.v., plus a letter highlighting the reasons that  one has met the criteria for fellow status in the Division. These candidates’ applications are evaluated by  the Division Committee only. The due date for these applications is April 15. Current Fellows may send their applications via email to the Fellows Committee Chair.

How to apply
Applications for New Fellow status in Division 35 require letters from three current Division 35 Fellows, as well as other materials that are supplied or explained in the application packet. Application packets (including required forms for the applicant to send to her or his recommenders) are available from the Division 35 Fellows chair. All the forms for the APA Nominiation and Election can be found at http://members.apa.org/fellows
