Awards and Grants:
The
following awards and grants are sponsored by Division 35, the
Society for the Psychology of Women, either alone or in conjunction
with other groups. The
work for which the awards are given is typically relevant in some
significant way to women's lives, or more generally, to the emerging
psychological understanding of gender role influences on human
behavior, broadly defined.
1.
Hyde Graduate
Student Research Grants
These grants, each up to $500, are awarded to doctoral psychology
students to support feminist research. The grants are made possible
through the generosity of Janet Hyde, Ph.D., who donates the
royalties from her book, "Half the Human Experience," to this
fund. Past recipients of Hyde Graduate Student Research Grants
are not eligible
to apply. Submission deadlines: March 15 and September
15.

Annual Prize
for Psychological Research on Women and Gender by Graduate or
Undergraduate Students
Research topics eligible for this award
may represent work in any area of Psychology. The research should
be relevant in some significant way to women's lives, or more
generally, to the emerging psychological understanding of gender
role influences on human behavior. The research may be basic or
applied. This prize is awarded by Association for Women in Psychology
(AWP) & Division 35 (Society for the Psychology of Women) of the
American Psychological Association (APA) Research. Deadline:

3.
Heritage Award
The Division 35 Heritage Award is given for a variety of types
of contributions to the Psychology of Women. This award is presented
to a senior individual or individuals who have made distinguished,
long-standing, and substantial contributions that pertain to women,
gender, or related issues in the area of teaching. Deadline

4.
Carolyn Wood Sherif
Award
The
Carolyn Wood Sherif Award Committee invites nominations for the16th
annual Carolyn Wood Sherif Award. This award is based on contributions
to the field of the psychology of women as a scholar, teacher,
mentor, and leader. Thus, selection requires evidence of excellence
in teaching and mentoring, research and scholarship, and professional
leadership in the area of the psychology of women.

5. Mary
Roth Walsh Teaching the Psychology of Women Award
The Mary Roth Walsh Teaching the Psychology of Women Award
is designed to encourage junior faculty teaching the psychology
of women or gender course. We particularly want to encourage teaching
innovations.

6. The Geis Memorial Award
Florence L. Geis was a Social Psychologist with a strong commitment
to research on the Psychology of Women and to the mentoring
of women graduate students. In her will, she left an endowment
to fund doctoral students conducting dissertation research
in feminist psychology. To qualify for funding, the research
must be 1) feminist, 2) address a feminist/womanist issue,
3) use social psychology research methods, and 4) make a significant
contribution to social psychology theory and research. Proposals
will be judged on suitability, feasibility, merit of the research,
and the potential of the student to have a career as a feminist
researcher in social psychology. Funding need not be used solely
to fund the research project. Deadline

7. The Strickland–Daniel Mentoring Award
The Strickland–Daniel Mentoring Award recognizes the feminist mentoring of the award winner whose mentoring includes several of the following components:
- Introduces mentees to professional contacts and networks
- Takes a personal interest in the mentees
- Provides coaching, supervision, consulting to women psychologists in practice
- Develops an inclusive network of professionals and protégés that includes women from diverse ethnic/racial groups, sexual orientations, social class backgrounds
- Interacts with mentees in formal, informal, and social settings
- Promotes democratic and nonhierarchical styles of interacting
- Offers formal mentoring events and programs
- Models or discusses issues of professional and personal balance
- Provides encouragement and advice to women seeking leadership positions within their agencies and institutions
- Encourages women to participate actively in Division 35 and APA committees and governance
