Division 35 Heritage Award
2009 Award Category: TEACHING

The Division 35 Heritage Award is given for a variety of types of contributions to the Psychology of Women. In 2009, this award will be presented to a senior individual or individuals who have made distinguished, long-standing, and substantial contributions that pertain to women, gender, or related issues in the area of teaching.

The 2008 Heritage Award, in the area of practice, was presented to Dr. Carolyn Zerbe Enns (Cornell College) in recognition of her exceptional accomplishments in the integration of feminist theories and practices, the development of ethical guidelines for the psychological treatment of girls and women, and the globalization of feminist practice.

EnnsSince receiving her PhD in 1987 from the University of California at Santa Barbara, Carol has conducted an outstanding and influential program to deepen our understanding of feminist psychological practice. Her work, spanning 25 years, has helped the field appreciate the diverse nature of feminist practice approaches, and has identified the importance of grounding and connecting feminist interventions and techniques into feminist theory and teaching. She has served as a truly excellent role model of the science-practioner who enhances psychological practice through her research and service to the profession. Most recently, Carol's vision and leadership led to the successful development and implementation of the APA's Guidelines for Psychological Practice with Girls and Women, both nationally and internationally.

This year's review committee members were Ellen Cole, Laura Brown, and Tomi-Ann Roberts (chair). The Heritage Award is presented annually to a senior individual who has made distinguished, long-standing, and substantial contributions that pertain to women, gender, or related issues in the areas of teaching, research, or practice.
