About the Division 35/AWP Suite

The Division 35/AWP suite serves as a place to hold meetings, network, share, and as a place for suite volunteers from both organizations to stay at a reduced rate. Click here for information about staying in the suite. The suite set up consists of a larger main room for meetings, a smaller side room for the book exhibit, and sleeping quarters. Division 35 and AWP currently share the financial support of the suite equally and each has access to half of the target of 17-20 programming hours. Because it is meant to be a “hospitality suite,” the two organizations decided that the remainder of the hours should be designated as “open time” for members to talk, network, relax, and get to know people in the organization. They also decided that the events held in the suite should be primarily conversation hours and meetings of task forces and organizations rather than formal presentations. These are all open sessions - mental health professionals and students are welcome to attend.

Meet the Authors!

The “Meet the Authors” Reception will be held in the AWP/SPW Suite at APA in Honolulu, Thursday, July 29th, 2004, 5:00 - 6:30 PM.

This year AWP and SPW will hold the second "Meet the Authors" event in the AWP/Division 35 Suite during the APA Convention in Honolulu, Hawaii. This event allows people, especially aspiring authors, to meet and interact with the authors whom they admire. It provides a wonderful mentoring opportunity through which students and professionals can learn more about writing and publishing. Authors who have written or edited books related to the psychology of women and feminist psychology that were published in 2002, 2003, 2004, and forthcoming in 2005 will be featured. To see a list of authors, please CLICK HERE.

Staying and Volunteering in the Suite

Going to the APA convention this year?  If so, please join us at the feminist/womanist hospitality suite co-hosted by the Association for Women in Psychology (AWP) and APA Div35, Society for the Psychology of Women!
What does VOLUNTEERING and STAYING at the Suite during
Room at the Hilton and Towers the convention involve? If you've not volunteered at the Suite before, it involves a couple things: Each volunteer staffs the suite (making people feel at home, watching over things, etc) for a total of 5 hours.  In return, besides the camaraderie, the volunteer stays in one of the rooms that AWP/Div35 subsidize (4 people per room, $40 per night probably) or on the floor of the suite ($20 per night probably).  Its important work since we want the suite to be inviting and well organized, and its also enjoyable -- a great way to meet people!
This opportunity is open to EVERYONE ... students and non-students, professionals and non-professionals, locally, nationally, AWP, Div 35, etc., etc.  The only requirements are that you will be at APA for at least 4 of the 5 nights and are willing to help out and welcome people coming to the suite.
If you want more information, or to reserve your space (we fill up!) please call or email Nikolai Houston. Her e-mail address is annnikolai@earthlink.net and she can be reached by phone at 718-851-6057. We hope to see you at the suite!

Help Division 35 Increase
Programming Hours At APA Next Year!

Did you know that you can help us increase the number of hours of programming time allotted to Division 35 at the APA Laura Brown entertains members of the EC with stories from her work as the psychologist for "Survivor."convention (i.e., the number of convention submissions that Division 35 can accept)? All you have to do is list Division 35 as your primary division on the convention registration form! It is important that you let APA know the kinds of sessions that attract your interest. It is an easy way to get better representation of the feminist perspective on the psychology of women at APA next year!
