The Child and Family Policy and Practice Advocate Editor: Julie Cohen, Ph.D. e-mail: juliecohen3@gmail.com The goal of the Division 37 newsletter, The Advocate, is to support Division 37's commitment to the application of psychological knowledge to advocacy, service delivery, and public policies affecting children, youth, and families by promoting the Division’s efforts in these areas and maintaining close communication between the Board and the membership of the Division.
Editorial Policy for The
Advocate
Division 37, American Psychological Association
Submit manuscripts electronically by emailing them to the current
Advocate editor, Julie Cohen, at juliecohen3@gmail.com.
All submitted manuscripts will be reviewed by the Editorial Board.
Articles must be in English and must be competently written and argued.
They generally should not exceed
six double-spaced pages in length, including references, tables, and
figures. Use 12-point font and one-inch margins.
Articles published cover all topics related to child and family policy
and practice. Submissions should
be current, timely, and of interest to the Division 37 membership.
The
Advocate often publishes special sections or special issues on
particular topics. If we are
seeking submissions for a special issue, the topic will be posted on the
Publications page of the Division 37 website and/or the topic will be
emailed to the Division 37 listserv.
The
Advocate
is a forum and articles do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the
Division 37 Board. For
manuscripts that are accepted for publication that advocate policies
that are controversial and/or counter to those of Division 37, we
reserve the right to publish an accompanying article articulating an
alternative point of view.
Comments on the policies of the Division and articles published in
The Advocate are also considered. We
suggest
comments be submitted no later than two months from the date of the
issue containing the article to which they respond; they should meet the
same criteria for original articles and should make a reasonable and
substantial contribution to the discussion of the topic.
Independent comments (i.e.,
those unrelated to a specific published
Advocate article or
special issue) and comments on matters of policy or on issues facing
Division 37 are also considered.
Comments must be limited to 1,000 words (about five pages)
and should contain no more than 10 references.
A comment is reviewed by the Editorial Board and, if
accepted, may be accompanied by an invited response from the authors
of the original article. Division 37 is pleased to announce that we are "going green"! Starting with the summer 2011 issue, Div37 is now distributing all issues of The Advocate electronically. If you have already provided Div37 with an email address, you will automatically receive an email three times a year from div37advocate@gmail.com with a link to the most recent e-Advocate issue (we recommend you add this address to your contacts so you don't have any problems receiving the emails). If you do not receive your email with the link, please let us know and we will make sure the email address we have is current. If you have not provided Div37 with an email address and would like to receive future issues electronically, please send us your email address at div37advocate@gmail.com and we will add you to the distribution list. Of course, if you do not wish to receive future issues electronically, you can still access a pdf version of each issue of The Advocate here on the Publications page of the Div37 website (see below).
