Sport–Exercise Psychology Chair Position at Argosy University

Job Title: Program Chair, SportExercise Psychology Program

Reports To: Vice President of Academic Affairs (Campus) or President and the University College Dean
FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Summary: The Program Chair is an employee of the Argosy University (AU) and is appointed to be the academic and administrative leader of a specific program (or programs) offered at a campus by AU. The Program Chair is responsible to the campus VPAA, the campus President, and the University College Dean for the efficient and effective functioning of the program. The Program Chair is responsible for fulfilling all duties in conformity to the policies and procedures of AU as well as those processes and mechanisms developed within the campus in which the program is offered.

Key Job Elements:

  • Lead the Sport-Exercise Psychology program faculty in the development, implementation, and oversight of the Sport-Exercise Psychology degree programs: (a) MA in SportExercise Psychology, (b) PsyD in Clinical Psychology (SportExercise Psychology concentration), and (c) Post-Doctoral Respecialization in SportExercise Psychology Certificate.
  • Implement Faculty Program Governance as specified in the Faculty Supplement to the Employee Handbook.· Recruit, supervise, and evaluate core and adjunct faculty.
  • Teach, advise, and supervise students in SportExercise Psychology degree programs.
    Conduct annual departmental reviews and demonstrate continued program improvement.
  • Manage the learning outcomes process (e.g., Sport Psychology Competency Evaluation) in the Sport-Exercise Psychology degree programs.
  • Oversight of field training in the SportExercise Psychology degree programs.
  • Grow Sport–Exercise Psychology degree programs as determined in yearly campus strategic plans.
    Play an integral role in the student recruitment process.
  • Serve on the Campus Administrative Council and participate in the strategic planning and budgetary activities of the campus.· Serve on the Campus Academic Affairs Committee and discuss academic issues related to the campus and the Sport-Exercise Psychology program.
  • Engage in public relations with regard to organizations impacted by the program; serve as liaison with the local professional community, colleges, and the public.
  • Other duties as may be assigned by the College Dean or campus President.

Position Requirements:

  • A minimum of 5–7 years of post-doctoral experience
  • AASP certification and/or licensure as a counselor/psychologist preferred
  • Experience in the education and training of sport psychology students
  • Evidence of management experience or potential

Educational Requirements: PhD or PsyD or EdD in Psychology or Kinesiology/Sport Sciences with major emphasis in Sport Psychology

"Play It Smart"
Academic Coach

The "Play It Smart" program, underwritten by the National Football Foundation, has part time "Academic Coach" positions available in the following cities:

Birmingham, AL; Los Angeles, CA; San Francisco, CA; Washington, DC; Tampa FL; Atlanta, GA; New Orleans, LA; Newark, NJ; New York, NY;

Positions are available immediately as well as anticipated for the 07-08 academic year. The academic coach is required to work a minimum of 20 hours/week for the entire school year. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: the development and coordination of a comprehensive support program for high school student athletes that includes academic, career, and personal counseling, and facilitating community service projects. Academic coaches can receive stipends of up to $15,000 per year.

The academic coach position requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree, and experience working with or a demonstrated appreciation of interscholastic athletics. All successful candidates must comply with NFF and local school board requirements for criminal background screening.

Assistant/associate Professor
Hofstra University

Description: Anticipated Opening Fall 2007

Position: Anticipated full time tenure track assistant/associate professor faculty position, effective August 29, 2007 to teach courses in the area of physical education curriculum, pedagogy (elementary and secondary), and assessment courses in the graduate and undergraduate initial teacher preparation programs. May also include supervision of student teachers, possibility of graduate program coordinator responsibilities and additional course work in sport pedagogy. Commitment to excellence in teaching and scholarship in a combination of the following: research and other scholarly publication, conference presentations, and professional development activities for teachers and other physical activity professionals. Student advisement, and service in the department and University community are also required
 
Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications: Earned doctorate preferable, ABD considered with emphasis in physical education pedagogy, teaching experience at elementary or secondary level, evidence of scholarly productivity. Experience in using technology for physical education teaching and physical activity is desirable.
Requested Information: The Department of Physical Education and Sport Sciences serves approximately 300 majors in five programs: Bachelor of Science programs in physical education teacher education, exercise specialist, athletic training; a Master of Science program for initial teacher certification and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Adventure Education. A proposed Master of Arts program for advanced study in physical education and sport sciences is in preparation.
