Dear Colleagues:
The 2010 APA Convention will be held
in sunny San Diego, California, August
12–15. Attractions (besides
the convention) include
the world famous San Diego
Zoo; Balboa Park, with its
museums and other cultural
institutions; Old Town, the
first Spanish settlement in
California; and, of course,
surfing, boating, and other
water-based activities.
We have a great program, covering the breadth and depth of the psychology of addictions. Clinicians might be most interested in "Cutting Edge Science for Clinicians" on Thursday, "Evidence-Based Practice in Addictions" and "Taking Innovative Evidence-Based Alcohol and Drug Treatment Forward "on Saturday, and "Linking Practice With Evidence-Based Interventions" on Sunday. Stay tuned for a special Clinician's Hour, with well-known practicing clinicians discussing the ways they've implemented evidence-based techniques in their practices, as well as conversation hours in our Hospitality Suite. And don't forget the FREE preconvention workshop: "Helping Patients Who Drink Too Much: Using The NIAAA Clinician’s Guide" for CE credit.
Researchers won't want to miss the preconvention workshop, " Unlock the Mysteries of NIH Research Funding: Improve Your Grant Application & Improve Your Chance at Success". This is a must to learn about all of the changes to applications and criteria for scoring. (Earn CEs at the same time.) In addition to the symposia mentioned above, we have a range of interesting research reports, covering comorbid disorders, gender considerations, adolescent-focused studies, and other special populations. Cutting edge genetic and neuropsychological research is also being presented this year. Be sure to checkout our sister Division 28's offerings as well.
Finally, everyone is invited to the Early Career Poster Session and Social Hour on Friday evening. Meet our rising stars, mingle with Division membership, talk to Division Board members about your hopes for Division 50's future, and meet new colleagues. Surf's up!
