News from the Program Director: Aaron Rochlen, Ph.D.
We have an exciting set of Division
51 sponsored programs, posters, workshops, and social hours for the
upcoming conference at APA! Without a doubt, this will definitely be a
special and unique experience in New Orleans. As program director, I
would highly encourage any and all people who are “on the fence” to make
the trip. While the full Division 51 can be downloaded from our
website, below are a few highlighted programs and events:
Division 35 and 51 Joint Social Hour
This event sponsored by Sloan Publishing and DV 35 and 51
will not be in the convention guide - so please help spread the word!
What it will be, however, is a fantastic time to network with members
from both divisions.
When:
Thursday August 10, 7:00-8:30 pm.
Where:
Ernst Cafe, 600 South Peters (3 blocks from the Hilton) Appetizers
Provided.
Division 51
Invited Address: Eric Hipple: NFL Quarterback Turned Mental Health
Advocate:

Former Detroit Lions NFL quarterback, Eric Hipple, will be our invited
speaker. This program is also being co-sponsored by the APA president,
Gerald Koocher, who will be awarding Mr. Hipple with a presidential
citation. Mr Hipple, now a consultant with the Michigan Depression
Center, will share his experiences in the community discussing
adolescent depression and suicide prevention. The topic is very close to
Mr. Hipple as after completing a successful NFL career, he lost his son
to suicide. Mr. Hipple will also be discussing his experience serving as
a consultant to the NFL, helping transition players from football into
the community.
