History of the Lizette Peterson Homer Injury Prevention Grant
This $1500 grant for either students or faculty has been made possible by the generosity of Marion W. and Donald K. Routh, PhD as well as many members of the Society of Pediatric Psychology. This award was previously known as the Rebecca Routh Coon Injury Prevention Grant in honor of the Routh’s daughter who was killed in a motor vehicle accident in 1988; however, in 2002, again thanks to the Routh’s compassion and generosity, the award was re-named in honor of pediatric psychologist, Lizette Peterson-Homer, PhD (well known for her research on injury prevention), who died after a battle with cancer.

Some members have shared their thoughts about donating to the Injury Prevention Grant fund:
“My donation was in honor of Lizette Peterson Homer, a prominent researcher and clinician in the field of pediatric psychology. I believe that she would have been touched by colleagues supporting one another in an effort to keep children and families safe.”
Teri Bordeau, PhD
“I remember having read an article in JPP (pioneers in pediatric psychology) about Routh who started a fund regarding prevention of accidents in childhood. As far as I know, the fund raising is used - among other things - to acknowledge young professionals with interesting projects in that area or to support new initiatives and ideas. As I had received a small award myself at the beginning of my professional career I do remember very well that even small awards may have a powerful influence and effect. And to my impression, you do have a vivid culture of fund raising and awards in America which certainly deserves to be modeled.”
