Congratulations, 2007 Award Recipients!


The Awards Committee, chaired by Mauricio Papini, made several awards for 2007.  The recipients were announced at the Division 6 Business Meeting at the APA convention.

The D. O. Hebb Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award was given to Stephen J. Suomi (National Institutes of Health). This award honors a psychologist who has made distinguished theoretical or empirical contributions to basic research in behavioral neuroscience and/or comparative psychology. The recipient receives a plaque at the Business Meeting of Division 6, held at the APA Annual Convention, and is expected to present the D. O. Hebb Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award Lecture in August of the following year at the APA Annual Convention. (Please note that the recipient does not have to be a member of Division 6.)

The Clifford T. Morgan Award for Distinguished Service was not awarded in 2007 or 2006. In 2005, the award was given to Nancy Dess (Occidental College). This award recognizes members of Division 6 who have made sustained and exceptional contributions to the Division. Recipients of this award are expected to have made a prolonged contribution in terms of both scholarly content and service to the Division. The recipient receives a plaque at the Business Meeting of Division 6, held at the Annual Convention.

The Brenda A. Milner Award was not awarded in 2007. In 2006, the award was given to Kimberly M. Christian (University of Southern California). This award recognizes the author of an outstanding paper in the field of behavioral neuroscience or comparative psychology, either published or in press, that is written by a member of Division 6 who is within five years of having received the Ph.D. at the time of the deadline for submission. Although the paper may be co-authored, the applicant should be the senior author and the paper must represent the original work of the applicant. The paper must be in press or must have been published within the last five years. (Nonmembers of the division may apply for membership at the time of nomination.) The recipient receives a plaque at the Business Meeting of Division 6, held at the APA Annual Convention.

The D.G. Marquis Behavioral Neuroscience Award was given to Michael J. Frank & Randall C. O'Reilly for their paper, "A mechanistic account of striatal dopamine function in human cognition: Psychopharmacological studies with cabergoline and haloperidol." The award is given each year to recognize the best paper in Behavioral Neuroscience and is chosen by the journal's Editor and Consulting Editors. Each author receives a plaque at the Business Meeting of Division 6, held at the APA Annual Convention.

 The Frank A. Beach Comparative Psychology Award was given to Julie J. Neiworth, Amy J. Gleichman, Anne S. Olinick, & Kristen E. Lamp for their paper, "Global and local processing in adult humans (Homo sapiens), 5-year-old children (Homo sapiens), and adult cotton-top tamarins (Sanguinus oedipus) ." The award is given each year to recognize the best paper in Journal of Comparative Psychology and is chosen by the journal's Editor and Consulting Editors. Each author receives a plaque at the Business Meeting of Division 6, held at the APA Annual Convention.
