Membership in Division 6

Division 6 currently has the following four categories:

Fellow: Fellows of the Division shall be persons who have been elected Fellows by the American Psychological Association (APA) and who in addition satisfy the following requirements: (a) have five years of experience in behavioral neuroscience or comparative psychology subsequent to a doctor's degree; (b) have publications of significant contributions in the field of behavioral neuroscience or comparative psychology in addition to research carried out for the doctor's degree and (c) are actively engaged in research. The election of Fellows to the Division shall be upon nomination from the Fellowship Nomination Committee to the Executive Committee, who then approves each nomination at the annual Executive Committee meeting and submits the nominations to the membership at the annual Business Meeting. Fellows must be elected by a majority vote of the Fellows and Members attending the annual Business Meeting.

Member: Members shall be persons (a) who are Members in the APA, (b) who have an interest within the field of behavioral neuroscience or comparative psychology, and (c) who have been approved by the Membership and Growth Committee. Members are accepted by the APA on a monthly basis.

Affiliate: Affiliates shall be persons who are not Members of the APA but whose qualifications otherwise are at least equivalent to those required for Member status in the Division. Affiliates are approved by the Membership and Growth Committee.

Student Affiliate: Student Affiliates shall be persons (a) who are current graduate or undergraduate students with an expressed interest in behavioral neuroscience or comparative psychology, (b) who are sponsored by a Fellow or Member of Division 6, and (c) who are approved by the Membership and Growth Committee.

Application for Membership in Division 6

Fellows and Members of APA may request membership in Division 6 either by informing APA directly or by contacting the Chair of the Membership and Growth Committee of Division 6 for an application form.

To request membership as an Affiliate or Student Affiliate in Division 6, contact the Chair of the Membership and Growth Committee of Division 6 for an application form. Graduate students will need to supply expected date of Ph.D. and the name and email address of their faculty advisor (if different from the sponsor). Undergraduate students will need to supply expected date of degree, the name and email address of a faculty advisor (if different from sponsor), and a copy of their undergraduate transcript.
