Introduction

Welcome to the first edition of CoA Communications for the year 2004! This online newsletter is intended to inform you of actions taken during the latest Committee on Accreditation (CoA) meeting and other important issues. CoA Communications is disseminated electronically to accreditation constituent groups and audiences. At its recent November 2003 meeting, the CoA reviewed over 76 programs. Hence, there are now 864 accredited programs (365 doctoral; 472 internship; and 27 postdoctoral residency programs). As always, we hope that you find this newsletter useful, and encourage you to contact the Office with any questions or concerns at apaaccred, or 202-336-5979. On behalf of the CoA, thank you for your continued commitment to psychology education and training through accreditation.

In addition to program review, the CoA regularly reviews policies and procedures. Specifically, the Committee reviews and develops implementing regulations, which provide references as appropriate to language in the Guidelines and Principles (G&P) and the Accreditation Operating Procedures. The implementing regulation document (available at http://www.apa.org/ed/implementingregs.html) is designed as a companion piece to the G&P/Operating Procedures. At it's November 2003 meeting, the Committee revised Implementing Regulations C15 (Jurisdiction of Licensure for Supervisors) and D3-8 (Access to Confidential Files by the CoA/Site Visitors). In addition, the CoA developed new Implementing Regulations that were related to governance policies and procedures (see Implementing Regulations D9-2 thru D9-4).
