Phasing out APA accreditation of programs in Canada
The CoA is phasing out accreditation of programs in Canada. Beginning on September 1, 2015, the APA CoA will no longer accredit programs in Canada. The APA CoA will no longer accept new applications from applicant programs located in Canada as of January 1, 2008.
Policy Changes
The CoA adopted and revised 5 Implementing Regulations during its fall meeting.
- IR C-10 has been revised to clarify that internship programs that are affiliated
with accredited doctoral programs must provide a complete set of information
specific to the internship program during the course of program review.
- IR C-14(a) specifies the process for review of applications from areas
seeking to be included in the scope of accreditation as developed practice
areas.
- IR C-21 states that the CoA will not accredit any programs operating outside
the US and its territories, with the exception of the phase-out of accreditation
of programs in Canada.
- IR D4-5 has been revised to clarify expectations of accredited programs
requesting inactive status.
- IR E3-1(a) has been revised to make aggregate results of specially requested
data analyses on accredited programs available on the CoA website.

Reminder to Doctoral Programs
All accredited doctoral programs should review Implementing Regulation C-20 on public disclosure, which is now in effect, and make the required information available to all current and prospective students. Click here to review all current CoA Implementing Regulations.
Public Comment
The CoA is making 3 changes to the Accreditation Operating Procedures (AOP) available for public comment. The first proposal changes the process for site visitor selection. The second proposal broadens the definition of the “generalist” site visitor for doctoral programs. The final proposal makes it clear that the outcomes of applicant program reviews will be made public. These proposals can be viewed on the public comment web site. Comments will be accepted until February 14, 2008.
2008 Program Reviews Scheduled
Programs scheduled for site visits in 2008 are posted on the accreditation website. Self-study instructions for all programs being site visited during 2008 are also available. New applicants for initial accreditation will be posted as they arrive. The CoA is accepting third-party testimony from students, faculty, and consumers on all programs scheduled for a 2008 site visit and periodic review. For details on providing third-party testimony, refer to section 7 of the Accreditation Operating Procedures.
Programs scheduled for site visits during 2009 will receive notice of their cycle assignments, along with information on completing self-studies, by late January 2008.
Annual Accreditation Fees
The invoices for the 2007-2008 annual accreditation fees have been mailed to all currently accredited programs. Please contact the Accreditation Office if your program has not received an invoice. These fees are due by December 30, 2007. |
