Program Review Consultants

The CoA will be conducting a pilot project from July 1, 2006 through December 1, 2007 that will employ non-CoA member readers in a supporting role in the CoA’s review of programs. The purpose of the pilot project will be to evaluate the utility and effectiveness of utilizing Program Review Consultants (PRCs) in the review process. PRCs will receive training in program review, including conflict of interest principles, prior to reviewing any program materials as part of the pilot project. Once trained, they will review program materials and be prepared to discuss those materials by providing the panel with a detailed analysis of strengths and weaknesses of assigned programs. As always, each program will be reviewed by at least two readers, one of whom will be a CoA member. The PRCs will not make any recommendations regarding accreditation. The CoA accepted nominations for PRCs through May 5, and those individuals selected will be listed on the accreditation website.

Policy Changes
The CoA has approved several additions to its Implementing Regulations.

  • C-20. Disclosure of Education/Training Outcomes and Information Allowing for Informed Decision-Making to Prospective Doctoral Students
  • E2-1(a). Procedures for Panel Review of Programs at CoA Meetings
  • E3-5. Conflict of Interest Policy for Program Review Consultants

In addition, the following Implementing Regulation has been revised:

  • IR E2-1. Committee on Accreditation Meeting Procedures

2007 Program Reviews Scheduled

Programs scheduled for site visits in 2007 have been notified of their cycle assignments, which are posted on the accreditation website. Self-study instructions for all programs being site visited during 2007 are now available. New applicants for initial accreditation will be posted as they arrive.

Accepting Third-Party Testimony

The CoA is accepting third-party testimony from students, faculty, and consumers on all programs scheduled for a 2007 site visit and periodic review. For details on providing third-party testimony, refer to section 7 of the Accreditation Operating Procedures, located at http://www.apa.org/ed/oprtgprcd.pdf.

Annual Report Online Open

The Annual Report Online (ARO) will be open from April 17 until September 15. All accredited programs must complete this report. Please contact Kimberly Kirkpatrick with any questions.

ARO Preparatory Data Sheets are available on the accreditation website for programs to download and use to collect data prior to entry into the online system. These are provided for the convenience of accredited programs and will not be accepted in lieu of completing the report online.
