Changes to Guidelines and Principles for Accreditation of Programs in Professional Psychology and Accreditation Operating Procedures

The CoA has made targeted changes to its Guidelines and Principles for Accreditation of Programs in Professional Psychology (G&P) and Operating Procedures. These changes are made to improve the quality of the G&P and Operating Procedures, and hence to improve the quality of education and training in professional psychology.

In accordance with the APA "Policies for Accreditation Governance," the CoA made the proposed changes available for a 6-month period of public review and comment, which ended on September 1, 2001. The proposed changes were finalized by the CoA following the period of public comment and were subsequently adopted by the APA Board of Directors. Beginning with its April 2002 meeting, the Committee on Accreditation will accredit internship programs for up to seven years. All other changes to the G&P and Operating Procedures will be effective for all programs under review in 2003. The full text of the amended G&P and Procedures is available at www.apa.org/ed/G&P2.pdf. Printed copies will be available on or about March 1, 2002 and may be obtained by contacting the Office of Program Consultation and Accreditation, American Psychological Association, 750 First Street, N.E., Washington, DC 20002-4242; (202) 336-5979. You may also obtain a printed copy by sending an email request.
