  • The following notice is provided as a public service by the APA Office of Program Consultation and Accreditation consistent with a Web listing protocol recommended by the Association of Specialized and Professional Accreditors (ASPA).

  • This section of the APA Office of Program Consultation and Accreditation Website contains the only official web listing of psychology internship programs accredited by the APA Commission on Accreditation (CoA). The APA-CoA is not responsible for the accuracy of any accredited status representations on any other website or database, including the APPIC directory.

  • This website listing is provided for informational purposes and does not contain a full historical record of accredited programs; it should not be used for historical credential review. You may email the Office of Program Consultation and Accreditation for verification of prior accreditation. When making a request, please provide the name, location (city/state) and year(s) in question for the internship program you are inquiring about.

Information Provided on This Website

  • The Commission on Accreditation (CoA) has accredited the doctoral internship training programs in professional psychology offered by the agencies listed below.

  • The original date of accreditation, listed for each program, is the day on which the program’s accredited status became effective.

  • The listing for each program includes the date of the next regularly scheduled site visit. Those programs visited prior to 2013 for which a final decision has not yet been reached at the time of this posting are listed as next site visit not yet scheduled.

  • To obtain more information on training offered, requirements for admission, and outcomes of specific programs, the reader is encouraged to contact the program directly.

About the Accreditation Process

  • Program review is governed by the Guidelines and Principles for Accreditation of Programs in Professional Psychology (G&P) (PDF, 460KB). A hardcopy of this document is available from the APA Office of Program Consultation and Accreditation upon request.

  • The CoA accepts third-party comment on programs in advance of their next scheduled reviews. For details on providing comment, please refer to Section 7 of the Accreditation Operating Procedures (PDF, 253KB) or contact the Program Consultation and Accreditation Office by telephone at (202) 336-5979.

  • Accreditation is a voluntary process. Programs that have not applied for and received accreditation are not included in the list. Programs that have applied for initial accreditation are listed on the Applicant Listing.

  • A list of programs accredited by the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) is available on the CPA website. The APA and CPA are in the process of phasing out concurrent accreditation and signed the First Street Accord, an agreement of mutual accreditation recognition in 2012. Beginning on September 1, 2015, the APA will no longer accredit programs in Canada. 

Accreditation Statuses

  • The official accreditation status of each program is provided at the bottom of each listing. In accordance with its policies regarding confidentiality of program decisions, the Office of Program Consultation and Accreditation cannot provide detailed information regarding these statuses to the public. Interested parties are encouraged to contact the program directly for that information. The official accreditation statuses are as follows:

    • Accredited: Programs that have been judged by the CoA to be consistent substantively and procedurally with the G&P.
    • Accredited, on probation: Programs that are, in the CoA’s judgment, not deemed to be fully consistent with the G&P. While this is an accredited status, this serves as notice that the program has issues that need to be addressed. Internship programs are typically scheduled for the next review after one year.
    • Accredited, inactive: Programs that have no interns in the denoted training year
  • The accreditation status listed for each program reflects that program’s current accredited status. If a review of a program is not complete or the decision is not final, the program’s prior accreditation status continues to be in effect until the review has been completed and a final decision has been reached.

  • All Canadian programs currently accredited by APA through the phase-out date of September 1, 2015 will be listed as accredited through the 2014-2015 training year rather than by the year of the next scheduled site visit. Concurrent programs with scheduled reviews prior to that date are listed with the date of the next regularly scheduled site visit.
