CPE Activities at the 2000 APA Convention in Washington, DC

  • The CPE Committee reviewed more than 100 workshop proposals, from which they selected 59 workshops, covering 28 content areas, for presentation at the 2000 convention in Washington, DC. There were a total of 911 enrollments in the CPE workshops, generating $217,000 in total revenue and a net revenue of $93,200. Evaluation data from workshop participants continue to reflect a high level of satisfaction with the quality and value of these programs.
  • The 4th annual Distinguished Speaker CPE Seminar was held on Sunday evening during the convention. Alan Goldstein, PhD, Professor of Psychology, John Jay College of Criminal Justice, presented a three-hour session entitled "Tools, Tests, and Techniques in Forensic Psychological Assessment and Practice" to an audience of 72 psychologists. A dessert reception followed the presentation, providing an opportunity for participants to converse with the speaker. This event will continue to be an annual event at the APA convention.
  • The Committee hosted an Open Forum that allowed APA-approved sponsors and sponsor-applicants to ask questions about APA approval and about procedures of the Sponsor Approval System. APA CPE Staff and Continuing Professional Education Committee members were present to review the Criteria and Procedures Manual and the application process. Representatives from approximately 30 APA-approved sponsors attended the forum.
