Graduate Education in Psychology
Psychology is a broad discipline with many applications. In 2004-2005, approximately 85,000 bachelor's degrees, 18,000 master's degrees, and 5,000 doctoral degrees were awarded in psychology. A graduate degree is generally required for most teaching, research and applied positions in psychology. Usually, a doctoral degree is the minimum requirement for independent licensed practice as a psychologist, for faculty appointment at colleges and universities, and for other senior research, consulting, or management positions related to psychology. If psychology is the field for you, you need to find a graduate program of study that is the best match for your career interests, needs, abilities, resources, education and work experience.
