Accreditation: Accreditation applies to educational institutions and programs, not to individuals, and is a system for recognizing educational quality as defined by the profession. The American Psychological Association (APA) accredits doctoral programs in psychology, but does not accredit master’s degree programs. Criteria for Doctoral Internship Programs: For information on internships that are accredited by the American Psychological Association or the Canadian Psychological Association and recognized as meeting the criteria outlined by the Association of Psychology, Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC), go to www.appic.org.

Licensure in Profession Psychology: To practice psychology in a state, province or territory of the U.S. or Canada, an individual must be licensed as a psychologist in accordance with the statues, rules and regulations that define and govern the practice of psychology in that particular state, province or territory.
