 Federal Funding Awarded Annually

Fiscal Year 1999 Discretionary Announcement for Head Start Family Literacy Projects
The Administration on Children, Youth and Families is making available $3,000,000 annually for each of the next five years to support one or more family literacy projects (FLPs).

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services: The Health Education Assistance Loan (HEAL) Program

Amount: The amount is unlisted.

Eligibility: Applicant must be a U.S. graduate student in medicine, public health, health administration, allied health, or clinical psychology. Applicant must have been accepted for full-time enrollment or be already in full-time attendance and in good standing at HEAL schools.

National Institute of Mental Health Fellowships

Amount: The amount is dependent upon fellowship award.

Eligibility: Applicant must be a U.S. citizen committed to a career relevant to mental health and interested in full-time research training.

Academic Requirements: Predoctoral applicants must have completed 2 or more years of graduate work and a doctoral prospectus. Postdoctoral applicants must have a PhD, DDS, DO, or equivalent degree.

National Research Service Awards for Individual Postdoctoral Fellows

Amount: Stipends are issued based on the number of years of relevant postdoctoral experience at the time the award is issued.

Purpose: This award was established to help ensure that highly trained scientists are available in adequate numbers and in appropriate research areas to carry out the nation's biomedical and behavioral research agenda.

Eligibility: Individuals must be citizens or noncitizen nationals of the U.S. or have been lawfully admitted to the U.S. for permanent residence; must have received a PhD, MD, DO, DDS, DVM, OD, DPM, ScD, EngD, DrPH, DNS, PharmD, DSW, PsyD, or equivalent doctoral degree; and must arrange for appointment to an appropriate institution and acceptance by a sponsor who will supervise the training and research experience.

Deadlines: August 5, December 5, and April 5.

Cooperative Agreement for a Coordinated Community Response To Prevent Intimate Partner Violence; Availability of Funds
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announces the availability of fiscal year (FY) 1999 funds for a cooperative agreement program for a Coordinated Community Response (CCR) to Prevent Intimate Partner Violence.

Behavioral Therapies Development Program
The purpose of this program announcement (PA) is to reaffirm National Institute on Drug Abuse's (NIDA) continued and ongoing commitment to a major program of research on behavioral therapies for drug abuse and dependence.

Research on Child Neglect
The purpose of this five-year research grant program is to enhance our understanding of the etiology, extent, services, treatment, management, and prevention of child neglect.


Private Funding Awarded Annually

Albert Ellis Institute

Amount: The amount is $6,000 per year

Purpose: To offer the opportunity for postgraduates to be trained by Albert Ellis and the senior staff while carrying a diverse caseload of individual clients and participating in special seminars and ongoing clinical research.

Academic Requirements: Applicant must have a doctorate in psychology or counseling or an MSW or MD degree. Those nearing completion of their dissertation are also qualified.

Selection Criteria: Qualifications and an interview are the basis of selection.

Resources For Recovery: State Practices That Expand Treatment Opportunities

Amount: Up to 5 states will be awarded Planning and Analysis Grants of up to $200,000 per state.

Purpose: State Practices That Expand Treatment Opportunities, a national program managed by Technical Assistance Collaborative, Inc., is a competitive grant program of The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation designed to encourage states to identify and implement strategies to expand alcohol and other drug (AOD) treatment services within existing overall state spending levels.

Eligibility: States eligible for participation in the Policy Forum must demonstrate collaboration among key constituencies in the alcohol and other drug (AOD) delivery system, minimally comprised of executive-level staff from the single state agencies for alcohol/substance abuse and Medicaid, key state officials (e.g., governors office, state budget office and other health purchasing agencies as appropriate) as well as county AOD authorities and provider associations, if applicable.

Deadline: Each lead state agency must submit a Proposal through The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Grantmaking Online system beginning January 3, 2003 and no later than 11:59 P.M. EST, Wednesday, February 26, 2003 (http://grantmaking.rwjf.org/spa).

Society for the Psychological Studies of Social Issues Dissertation Award

Amount: First prize is $600; second prize is $400.

Eligibility: Applicants must have had a doctoral dissertation in psychology or in a social science with psychological subject matter accepted during the previous year.

Application Details: Five copies of dissertation abstract and certification by dissertation advisor or acceptance date of dissertation must be submitted.
