Marilyn Freimuth, PhD is chair of the clinical psychology faculty at Fielding Graduate University as well as an author, consultant, and psychotherapist. She received her Ph.D. from Clark University and completed her clinical training at Yale University. In addition to numerous publications related to addiction assessment, her two books provide a groundbreaking approach to recognizing addictions by emphasizing subtle early warning signs: Hidden Addictions: Assessment Practices for Psychotherapists, Counselors, and Health Care Providers (2005) and Addicted? Recognizing Destructive Behavior Before Its too Late ? (2008). She lectures around the country on training health care professionals to assess and treat substance and behavioral addictions. A long time resident of New York, she now lives with her family in Wisconsin and maintains a private practice in New York City. She is a founding member of the Alonso Center designed to keep talk therapies alive in the age of managed care.
