An APA task force has created a report to put into practice the association's Guidelines on Multicultural Education, Training, Research, Practice, and Organizational Change for Psychologists.
Recommendations include hiring a diversity enhancement officer and establishing an Office of Diversity Enhancement at APA headquarters.
"We recognize there are multiple areas of diversity, and if we are going to engage the entire organization, we will have to go beyond the Office of Ethnic Minority Affairs," says Josephine Davis Johnson, PhD, chair of the Task Force on the Implementation of the Multicultural Guidelines.
The report, still in draft, has been submitted to APA boards and committees, including the American Psychological Association of Graduate Students, for comment. It encourages psychologists-in-training and all psychologists to increase their multicultural awareness in their education, practice and research.
