Student loan defaults on the rise

Of the 3.3 million undergraduate and graduate students who began paying back their educational loans in fiscal 2007, 6.7 percent had defaulted before the start of fiscal 2008, at the cusp of the economic collapse, according to the U.S. Department of Education.
