The Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC) has requested that member sites extend their application deadlines for psychology students affected by the wildfires in California. Students in the seven counties declared disaster areas--Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, Santa Barbara and Ventura--should also directly contact training directors and request extensions, says Steve McCutcheon, PhD, chair of the APPIC board of directors.
"Our experience during the previous hurricane disasters was that training directors universally responded with great flexibility and understanding, and I'm sure they'll do so again," he says.
Also, students should be aware that some California sites may be delayed in responding to applications. However, the fires shouldn't deter them from applying to internships in the affected counties, McCutcheon says.
