Application

Subscriptions to APA Journals:

The Office of Publications and Communications provides up to 30 complimentary three-year subscriptions to international institutions. Donations are limited to five subscriptions per institution. All APA journals are available except Psychological Abstracts.

Book Donations

The Office of International Affairs coordinates member donations of psychology books for institutions building a library. Applicants should indicate desired areas of psychology. Textbooks are not generally included in this category.

Journal Donations

The Office of International Affairs coordinates member donations of journal libraries.

Recipients

Requests for donations are judged on the following principles:

  • Institutional Setting: Donations are made only to educational or research institutions where materials will be in the charge of a librarian, and where the collection will be readily available to all students and faculty.
  • Demonstration of Need: Donations are made only to institutions that cannot otherwise afford to purchase subscriptions or books.
  • Demonstration of Programmatic Commitment: Participating institutions should evidence a capability of long-term programmatic commitment to maintaining and expanding their collection.
  • Time Limits: For journal subscriptions, participating institutions are reviewed annually and reassessed based on need. Institutions are encouraged to purchase subscriptions, although exceptions can be made for developing countries and countries with currency restrictions.
  • Geographic Distribution: For journal subscriptions APA wants to make its journals available in the widest possible geographic area, particularly in the developing world, and areas where comprehensive libraries are inaccessible.

Donors
Donors should contact the Office of International Affairs with a list of materials to be donated. The Office has limited funds available to assist with shipping costs.

Application
To participate in the journal subscription donation program, interested institutions should submit a letter from their librarian outlining the institution's need based on the program criteria to:
