At a meeting of the APA Board of Directors held during the 2011 Annual Convention in Washington D.C., APA President Dr. Melba Vasquez and Sociedad Mexicana de Psicología (SMP) President Dr. Joaquín Caso Niebla signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the American Psychological Association and SMP. The MOU articulates the mutual goals of APA and SMP and agrees to identify future projects and collaborative opportunities for the associations to work together in their mission of advancing psychological knowledge and application. The APA Board of Directors welcomed and congratulated this partnership. Early discussions included such topics as student exchange, mutual participation in the associations’ annual conventions, and dissemination opportunities. APA Past-President Carol Goodheart and APA President-Elect Suzanne Bennett Johnson are attending the XIX Congreso Mexicano de Psicología in Cancún, Mexico this year.
APA has signed MOUs with psychology associations in nine countries: Australia, Canada, China, Colombia, Jordan, Mexico, Norway, South Africa, and the United Kingdom. For more details on APA’s Memoranda of Understanding, please visit the Office of International Affairs website.
