International Presidents Initiative at the 2012 APA Convention

Attendees at APA's 2012 Annual Convention will have an opportunity to meet with the presidents of more than 20 psychology associations from around the world
2012-06-PI-presidents-initiativeConvention attendees will have an opportunity to meet with the presidents of more than 20 psychology associations from Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Europe, Latin America and the Middle East. The presidents, invited by 2012 APA President Suzanne Bennett Johnson, will participate in a Symposium on international perspectives concerning the many roles that psychology plays in health, education, and global collaboration. The presidents will also participate in CIRP-APAGS sponsored roundtables on “Psychology Without Borders: Discussions on International Teaching, Service, and Research” and in many social and networking events. This is the second time presidents of national associations have been invited as a group to the APA convention. (The last time was at the APA 2007 Convention in San Francisco.) Local hosts, from APA’s Committee on International Relations in Psychology, will greet the presidents and accompany them to their sessions and to meetings with interested individuals and Divisions. To date, presidents are expected to attend from Afghanistan, Australia, Azerbaijan, Bahamas, Barbados, Belgium, Bermuda, China, Colombia, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Iran, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Lebanon, Malaysia, Mexico, Norway, Portugal, Sierra Leone, Spain, Sweden, Turkey and the United Kingdom.
