It is affiliated with the Department of Public Information (DPI) of the UN (1999), accorded special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the UN (2000) and accredited to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) (2001).

APA's initiatives at the UN are carried out by a team of psychologists whose main mission is to contribute to the development and implementation of psychologically informed global policies that respect human rights and promote human welfare.
