Required Qualifications:
- Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Two years experience in publishing, library or legal environment can substitute
for education
- One to two years of experience in writing formal documents in professional
workplace.
- Experience with formal written communications to external clients or customers.
- General knowledge of publishing practices and how publishers handle copyright
permissions
- Intermediate skills using MS Word, Excel, Outlook
- Ability to establish priorities and work independently
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Excellent communication and writing skills
Description:
- Triages all incoming permissions requests to ensure proper and efficient
handling channels. Checks for requests to be redirected to the online process,
which ones will involve staff from other APA departments, which ones are non-permissions
matters and forwards them, which ones are duplicates or are related to earlier
requests, which ones belong in clusters for efficient handling, and which
ones need to be flagged as quite complex in nature.
- Researches permissions requests and prepares licenses and invoices for basic
and moderately difficult requests to reuse APA copyrighted materials. Applies
knowledge of and sound judgment about copyright and APA policies in order
to:
- a) arrive at proper license decisions;
- b) carefully craft the wording of licenses;
- c) set appropriate fees; and
- d) deny permission in suitable situations.
- Provides guidance to requestors about how to use the APA online permissions
process. Responds to general questions about APA permissions policies. Works
on preparing the Permissions Handbook of Procedures.
- Communicates with staff from other directorates to obtain permissions decisions
concerning the reuse of their content. Applies knowledge of prior similar
cases and Permissions Office policy to formulate recommendations to assist
non-permissions staff in their decisions.
- Confirms the copyright registration of APA journals, books, videos/DVDs,
and databases. Confirms the receipt of author copyright transfer forms for
all APA journal issues. Maintains the tracking documents for registration
certificates received and for author forms received.
- Ensures that the files of legal forms associated with permissions, copyright
registration, and copyright transfer are complete. Responsible for the integrity
and usability of these important legal files.
