From 1997 when APA first offered its journals in an electronic database format, the association gradually digitized back volumes until the APA journals were available as far back as 1985. Then in 2006, APA completed a multi-year process to digitize APA journals in PsycARTICLES back to Volume 1, Issue 1. The oldest journal, Psychological Review, began in 1894.

Over time, journals evolved, titles changed, journals merged or broke apart. Consequently, it can be difficult to track the history of a title from Volume 1 to its current state. The chart below traces the journals from their inception to their present title. Note: The 5 APA journals that are not completely digitized were previously owned by other publishers.
