The Minority Aging Network in Psychology
ATTENTION: The Minority Aging Network in Psychology summer institute will NOT be held until further notice.
The week-long summer institute is designed to increase
the pool of ethnic minority researchers in the field of gerontology. Participants
may anticipate engaging presentations, didactic seminars, methodological
workshops, and a host of professional development and networking opportunities
that are in keeping with the 2003 theme, "Social Support and Minority Families,"
and that are related to aging, ethnicity, and cognition.

Qualifications
The MANIP Summer Institute on Aging is available to undergraduate
junior and seniors, as well as first- and second-year graduate students
in the field of psychology. All applicants should demonstrate an interest
in aging and ethnic minority research.

The deadline for submission of applications to the 2005 MANIP Summer Institute
is March 15, 2005.

2003 Summer Institute Offerings
·
- Hotel accomodations, travel expenses, meals,
and instruction materials will be provided to those who are selected
to attend. ·
- Participants will attend seminars that are led by leading
researchers in the fields of gerontology and psychology. ·
- The MANIP Summer Institute offers exposure to the latest
gerontological research methodologies and web-based resources. ·
- Faculty-led professional development workshops will
be available to institute participants. Professional development workshop
topics include grant-writing, graduate school preparation, and the development
of research publications. ·
- MANIP faculty members serve as mentors and offer advisement
to summer institute participants. ·
- Partial-funding is provided to attend the American Psychological
Association (APA) Annual Convention and the Gerontological Society of
America (GSA) Annual Conference. ·
- The MANIP Summer Institute sponsors tours to institutions
that serve elders who are ethnic minorities. ·
- Summer institute participants are granted a subscription
to the MANIP listserve and are invited to become engaged in other professional
networking opportunities.

Q: When are awards announced?
A: Awards are announced in April. The MANIP Advisory Committee convenes
annually in March to select awardees.
Q: What are the criteria used to select Fellows?
A: Selection is based upon the applicant's demonstrated
commitment to a research career in aging, competitive record of scholarship,
relevant research experience or potential, training environment, and
mentor.
