The Minority Fellowship Program in Neuroscience is entering its tenth year. During these years many interesting events have happened. First, we have 43 new doctorates and expect that this number will rise to 71 when those currently in the program graduate. After the fifth year of its existence the MFP added a postdoctoral component and 8 students have rotated through and 2 of these have obtained faculty positions. The Summer Workshop in Neuroscience held at the Marine Biological Laboratory evolved into the Summer Program in Neuroscience, Ethics and Survival (SPINES) and now each summer recruits 20 students nationwide to participate in this enrichment experience. Dr. Ivy Dunn, a former fellow, developed the Neuroscientists of Color Directory. One of our first fellows, Dr. Domingo Rivera, passed away last December. I expect that soon our first grandfellow, a Fellow trained by a Fellow, will appear. What we have collectively accomplished will affect the discipline and the Society for Neuroscience for all time. Most importantly, we will create new knowledge. Someday perhaps, someone will collect all of this new knowledge into a compendium of research of former MFP Fellows. How large this book will be and how much impact it will have on neuroscience is up to you. I urge you to make it a very important book.
