Discussing psychological solutions
to climate change issues is on the agenda for APA's 2008 Annual Meeting in Boston. Two symposia will address the role of psychology in understanding and combating climate change:
• Psychological research to meet the global challenges of climate change and sustainable development: An international symposium.
• Psychology of global climate change.
Also, Div. 34 (Population and Environmental Psychology) will host symposia
related to environmental issues more generally, including:
• Growing up green: The development of responsible environmental
behavior.
• Social barriers and solutions to environmental conservation challenges.
• Psychologists' contributions to health and resilience in
conservation settings.
Div. 34 President Susan Clayton, PhD, hopes the division can act as a network
for connecting researchers who want to work together, and for promoting psychology's
role in understanding environmental issues.
"We want to make people aware of the psychological impact of climate
change and how psychologists can help people adapt," Clayton says.
