Candidates answer final questions: Q5: What does diversity mean to you and how would you encourage diversity in APA? Psychology must reflect our nation's changing demographics within all its branches and across psychologists' varied workplace settings; this includes recognizing our broadening conceptualization of diversity. Diversity includes ethnic minority recruitment and retention including overcoming financial barriers faced by psychology's minority students. Diversity assures that cultural and global competencies are infused throughout our educational programs. I would encourage APA to adopt all recommendations from the Committee on Minority Recruitment, Retention, and Training in Psychology2 (www.apa.org/pi/oema/programs/cemrrat2.html ). While on APA's Board of Directors, I supported hiring a diversity officer to coordinate efforts across our association, including diversity education throughout all APA activities. Convention is a time to celebrate psychology! Our convention should be informative, interactive, inclusive, entertaining. I will request symposia focus on psychology's contributions to the well-being of humankind, newest scientific findings, creative educational programs, and expanding practice and scientific opportunities with a practical eye toward our future. Special programs will offer opportunities to have fun interacting with my proposed online "Psychology's Family Tree," www.rozenskyforapapresident.com/PastTaskForce.htm. Thematic programming will concentrate on psychology's research contributions to public health, highlighting research and emerging practice opportunities. Polling membership will assure entertainment choices reach our widest interests. I promise an opening speaker who will captivate all. |
