Division spotlight Div. 46 honors journalists Div. 46 (Media) presented its 2008 News Media Recognition Awards to Dawn Fratangelo of NBC News and Barbara Meltz of The Boston Globe at APA's 2008 Annual Convention in Boston. The awards honor excellence in the reporting of psychological information and research. The division honored Fratangelo with the News Media Recognition Award for Broadcast Excellence for her long record of excellent TV-news reports on such issues as post-traumatic stress disorder, happiness and preventing bullying. "I'm proud to be working with APA toward a common goal — the goal of helping people," said Fratangelo. Meltz received the News Media Recognition Award for Print Excellence for her weekly column "Child Caring," which for more than 20 years has provided helpful psychological information to parents to help them understand and address their children's behavior. To nominate a journalist for the 2009 News Media Recognition Award, contact Elizabeth Carll, PhD. Nominations are due by May 1. APA divisions host 2009 National Multicultural Conference and Summit Four divisions will host the National Multicultural Conference and Summit in New Orleans on Jan. 15–16: Divs. 17 (Society of Counseling Psychology), 35 (Society for the Psychology of Women), 44 (Society for the Psychological Study of Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Issues) and 45 (Society for the Psychological Study of Ethnic Minority Issues). The conference, "Advancing Our Communities: The Role of Social Justice in Multicultural Psychology," will also explore links and tensions between social justice and multicultural psychology. In addition to offering continuing-education, posters, presentations and symposia, the conference will honor the contributions of distinguished senior psychologists Florence Denmark, PhD, A.J. Franklin, PhD, Janet Helms, PhD, Martha Mednick, PhD, Charles Silverstein, PhD, Derald Wing Sue, PhD, and Bonnie Ruth Strickland, PhD. They will be honored as Elders for making significant contributions to multicultural psychology through their roles as scholars, teachers, mentors, practitioners and advocates.
