APA honored these researchers for their service to psychology at APA's 2008 Science Leadership Conference:

  • Award for Distinguished Service to Psychological Science: Janet Hyde, PhD, a psychology and women's studies professor at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. She also helped found the APA journal Emotion and has published landmark research on the effects of gender in mathematics and science.

  • Award for Distinguished Service to Psychological Science: Wilbert McKeachie, PhD, an emeritus professor of psychology at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He has spent six decades studying student and faculty motivation and information processing in the university setting.

  • Departmental Award for Culture of Service in the Psychological Sciences: Department of Psychology, James Madison University. The department actively encourages faculty and students to develop and expand their involvement in the local community and national organizations.

  • Departmental Award for Culture of Service in the Psychological Sciences: Department of Psychology, University of Miami. The department enables faculty to incorporate service into their teaching and research efforts.
