Div. 5 (Evaluation, Measurement and Statistics) celebrates its 60th anniversary this year. To commemorate this anniversary, The Score, Div. 5's newsletter, will feature articles about the division's historic milestones, such as the addition to the Div. 5 name and changes in the bylaws permitting the formation of separate sections. Another article will profile past Div. 5 presidents, who include such luminaries as L.L. Thurstone, PhD, Quinn McNemar, PhD, Lee J. Cronbach, PhD, and Anne Anastasi, PhD. The articles can be found by clicking the link for The Score online at: www.apa.org/divisions/div5.
Past Div. 22 presidents report on traumatic brain injury in veterans Div. 22 (Rehabilitation) Past-presidents John Corrigan, PhD, and William Stiers, PhD, reported on the effects of traumatic brain injury on long-term health outcomes in military veterans for the Institute of Medicine. Their report found that traumatic brain injuries, particularly those that are moderate and severe, not only have long-term negative effects on cognition, affect and social functioning but are also associated with neuroendocrine and autoimmune disorders. This was the seventh in a series of reports about the Gulf Wars and health released by the National Academy of Sciences. The report is titled "Gulf War and Health, Volume 7: Long-term Consequences of Traumatic Brain Injury." It is available online at: www.nap.edu/catalog.php?record_id=12436.
Div. 38 offers a wealth of health psychology programming at APA's convention Div. 38 (Health) is sending master clinicians/researchers to APA's 2009 Annual Convention, Aug. 6–9 in Toronto, to provide evidence-based case rounds on health psychology topics. Div. 38 hopes the presentations appeal to both researchers and clinicians. Question-and-answer sessions will follow each presentation. For more information, visit: www.health-psych.org.
New benefit for Div. 42 members Div. 42 (Psychologists in Independent Practice) has launched a new benefit: Monthly conference calls for members to discuss the challenges they face as practitioners. Each conference call will also feature a presentation by a senior member of the division. Recent calls have focused on how to succeed in private practice. All presentations are recorded and posted on the division's Web site in the members-only section at www.42online.org/member_info. —J. Clark
