2009 STATE LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE
Taking the message to Capitol Hill

Print version: page 64

APA and the APA Practice Organization once again hosted its State Leadership Conference (SLC), an advocacy and leadership training event. The annual conference attracts more than 500 psychologist leaders to Washington, D.C., and culminates with visits to Capitol Hill for meetings with members of Congress.

Among its many purposes, the SLC facilitates successful working partnerships between APA and its 60 affiliated state, provincial and territorial psychological associations. The conference has become a primary instrument for achieving advocacy successes such as mental health parity and Medicare reimbursement laws, and the Psychologically Healthy Workplace Awards program.
