APA News Nominate a colleague for APA's professional affairs committees APA's Board of Professional Affairs seeks members to serve three-year terms on its Advisory Committee on Colleague Assistance and Committee on Professional Practice and Standards. ACCA, an ad hoc advisory committee to the Board of Professional Affairs, helps increase colleague assistance at local and state levels and develops relationships among state ethics committees, boards of examiners and colleague assistance programs. The COPPS committee develops, reviews and evaluates practice guidelines for psychological service providers. Both committee positions require a significant time commitment, including two meetings in Washington, D.C., each year, conference calls, and participation in individual and team projects. The terms begin next January. Self-nominations are welcome. The deadline for nominations is Sept. 15. Comment on proposed 'Guidelines for Assessment of and Intervention with Individuals Who Have Disabilities' APA's Task Force on Guidelines for Assessment and Treatment of Persons with Disabilities seeks comments on its proposed Guidelines for Assessment of and Intervention with Individuals Who Have Disabilities. The guidelines seek to provide psychologists with general principles and approaches to working with people with disabilities, including accessibility, communication and relationship skills; assessment of persons with disabilities, including selection of appropriate measures and adaptation of measures; treatment and provision of clinical services, including frameworks for disability-sensitive and disability-affirmative therapy. APA Fellows Committee seeks new members The APA Fellows Committee seeks nominations for two new members to serve three-year terms beginning next January. The committee is charged with the review of nominations for APA Fellows and reports its recommendations to APA's Board of Directors through the Membership Board. Nominees must be available to meet twice a year at APA headquarters and must be APA Fellows themselves. The committee seeks nominees from elected fellows who are within 10 years of receiving their doctorate degrees and members who have served on a division fellows committee. The committee encourages fellows in science, academia and from ethnic minority groups to apply. The deadline is July 1. Nominations, including a statement of interest and curriculum vitae, can be sent to Sonja Wiggins.
APA seeks nominations for members of its Committee on Aging and for the Award for the Advancement of Psychology and Aging. The Committee on Aging, the chief committee within the APA charged with addressing aging concerns, seeks two members with specializations in aging issues to serve three-year terms beginning next January. CONA places a priority on maintaining representation within the membership that reflects the diversity of psychology across all experience levels and disciplines. Nominations should be sent by Sept. 1. CONA also seeks nominations for its Advancement of Psychology and Aging Award, which recognizes psychologists and friends of psychology who have made significant contributions to CONA's mission. Candidates will have made contributions that advance knowledge for and about older adults and aging issues, foster understanding of older adults' lives and improve the status of older adults.
