APA's Council of Representatives presented Bonnie R. Strickland, PhD, with the 2011 Raymond D. Fowler Award for her longtime commitment to helping "psychology be and become its best" according to her citation. Strickland served as APA president in 1987 and was president of APA's Div. 1 (Society of General Psychology) in 2002, Div. 12 (Society for Clinical Psychology) in 1983 and Div. 44 (Society of the Psychological Study of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Issues) from 2009 to 2011. She represents APA's Div. 1 on APA's council.

"Her volunteer labors for APA have touched each and every aspect of the organization, and left everything she touched better for her having done so," reads her citation.

Strickland has also served on the Board of Trustees of the American Psychological Foundation, the National Coalition for Women's Mental Health and the International Academy of Behavioral Medicine. She has been an advocate for women and minorities throughout her career and is a professor emerita at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where she has taught for almost 50 years.
