High school teachers who join APA as high school teacher affiliates become part of the APA Teachers of Psychology in Secondary Schools (TOPSS), which launched in 1992. TOPSS is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.

“The teacher-affiliate member numbers have been the fastest growing in APA,” says Emily Leary, assistant director of APA’s Office of Pre-College and Undergraduate Programs, noting that this increase includes Community College Teacher Affiliates.

In addition to the many APA benefits for teacher affiliates, membership in TOPSS provides unit lesson plans, new online modules and access to the APA’s online education newsletter, Psychology Teacher Network. TOPSS members can also take advantage of grant opportunities through the APF (see Pre-college grants from APF), which offer valuable support in a time of restricted school budgets.
