Div. 1(Society for General Psychology)
Div. 1 announced its 2001 award winners who have been recognized for outstanding achievements in general psychology. The winner of the William James Book Award is Michael Tomasello, PhD, for his book, "The Cultural Origins of Human Cognition." The award is for a recent book that integrates material across psychological subfields or provides coherence to the diverse subject matter of psychology.
The division awarded the Ernest R. Hilgard Award for a career contribution to general psychology to Murray Sidman, PhD. The winners of the George A. Miller Award for an outstanding recent article in general psychology are Jack Martin, PhD, and Jeff Sugarman, PhD, for their article, "Psychology's reality debate:a 'levels of reality' approach," published in 1999 in the Journal of Theoretical Psychology.
Div. 12(Society for Clinical Pscychology)
Div. 12 has announced applications for division membership are now available online. Requirements for division membership include training in a clinical psychology graduate program and a formal internship program. Div. 13 (Consulting)
Div. 13 will now be bestowing a fourth annual award to its members for services to the division. Nominees for this award must be members of Div. 13 and have made asustained and distinguished contribution to the division. The deadline for nominees will be announcedin the summer. The other threedivision awards recognize distinguished contributions to the application of theory, excellence in consulting and outstanding graduate research.
Div. 35(Society for Psychology of Women)
Div. 35 has come together with Divs. 17 (Counseling) and 45 (Society for the Psychological Study of Ethnic Minority Issues) to update the Guidelines for Multicultural Counseling Proficiency for Psychologists. The divisions are asking APA members to contribute their thoughts to the manual by browsing the draft online and sending comments.
