The division has also launched a task force on preparing the new psychology professorate that will explore ways the division can enhance the professional development of psychology graduate students and early-career faculty. The task force will offer four workshops on preparing future faculty at several national and regional psychology conferences this year. For more information, contact Bill Buskist, PhD, at buskiwf@auburn.edu.
Div. 12 launches new award,
student recruitment method
Div. 12 (Society of Clinical Psychology) established a new annual award at its recent board meeting to recognize psychologists who have made outstanding contributions to the understanding of human diversity, overcoming prejudice and enhancing quality of life. The Stanley Sue Award for Distinguished Contributions to Diversity in Clinical Psychology will honor psychologists who advance knowledge through research, develop innovative approaches to service delivery, teaching or consultation, or mentor and promote ethnic minorities. Renowned multicultural researcher and mentor Stanley Sue, PhD, will be the first recipient of the award named in his honor.
Div. 12 has also developed a new way to attract student members to the division: For every new student member a current student member recruits, the recruiter receives two chances in a contest to win books authored and signed by members of the division. Clinical students wishing to join the division should contact student representative Lahoma Schultz at lahoma@okstate.edu.
Annette La Greca, PhD, of the University of Miami, has been appointed chair of the division's publications committee, and Luis Vargas, PhD, of the University of New Mexico, is the newest member of its publications board.
Div. 46 to offer distance-education course, promote
student participation
This year's focus for Div. 46 (Media) will be advancing the understanding and use of cutting-edge communication technologies. The theme covers multimedia telecommunications, the Internet, virtual reality and distance learning, says Div. 46 President Elizabeth Carll, PhD.
As part of the initiative, the division has established a distance-learning committee, chaired by Barry Gordon, PhD, which will present a live distance-education course on "Integrating Internet and information technology into your practice," on June 7. Participants can hear and ask questions on their telephone while viewing lecture slides on their Web browsers.
Course instructors Gordon and Manny Tau, PsyD, will discuss how psychologists can use the Internet and other information technologies to enhance their professional services. The course covers legal, ethical and technical issues and offers practical examples and resources to help participants develop and successfully integrate electronic services into their practice. The course is co-sponsored by the California Psychological Association and the Orange County Psychological Association and will provide two hours of APA continuing-education credit. A registration form is available at www.APADiv46.org. For more information, contact Gordon Tau at div46ce@attbi.com.
In addition, the division has established a Student Committee and annual Student Dissertation/Research Award to promote student participation. The $200 award is for research relating to any form of media. To apply, contact Lilli Friedland, PhD, at lillif@aol.com. The application deadline is April 30. Students interested in joining Div. 46 should
