A vast array of new psychological information will be available during APA?s 1998 Annual Convention, at the APA Convention Store?all APA books, journal special issues, psychotherapy training videotapes and more. The Convention Store will be located in front of the APA Registration area in Halls B and C of the Moscone Center. Store hours will be: Friday, Aug. 14, 7:30 a.m.?6 p.m.; Saturday through Monday, Aug. 15?17, 8:30 a.m.?6 p.m.; and Tuesday, Aug. 18, 8:30 a.m.?noon. More than 50 new titles from APA Books will be in the APA Convention Store, along with the nearly 400 other APA titles, all 23 videotapes in the psychotherapy training series, convention T-shirts and other signature items. Key new books to look for include: 'Health-Related Disorders in Children and Adolescents'; 'Investigative Interviews of Children'; 'Studying the Clinician: Judgment Research and Psychological Assessment'; 'Clinical Geropsychology'; 'The Origins and Development of Schizophrenia'; 'The Rising Curve: Long-Term Gains in IQ and Related Measures'; and new editions of best-sellers 'Methodological Issues and Strategies in Clinical Research' and 'Understanding AIDS.' Publications and PsycINFO booths The APA Publications Booth (#324) and the PsycINFO Booth (#424) will be at the Exhibit Hall, Moscone Center. Exhibit hours will be Friday through Sunday, Aug. 14?16, 10 a.m.?6 p.m., and Monday, Aug. 17, 10 a.m.?4 p.m. Sample copies of four new journals will be available at the Publications Booth. New in 1998 is History of Psychology (Div. 26). Other journals now published under APA?s Educational Publishing Foundation (EPF) imprint, beginning in 1998, include Rehabilitation Psychology (Div. 22) and Psychoanalytic Psychology (Div. 39). EPF is beginning midyear publication of Cultural Diversity and Mental Health, which, in 1999, will have the new title Cultural Diversity and Ethnic Minority Psychology (Div. 45). APA?s Web Site will be on display at the Publications and PsycINFO booths, where convention participants may surf APA?s electronic resources?including the new Online Member Services, which provides affordable access to APA?s Full-Text Articles Database, and the full range of PsycINFO databases. Also at the PsycINFO booth, staff can give you a personal demonstration of PsycINFO on the web-based or CD-ROM search system. Publishing-related sessions The long-running session 'How to Publish Your Journal Article' will be on Saturday, Aug. 15, 9?10:50 a.m., (Golden Gate C2, Marriott). Presenters include Clara Hill, PhD, editor, Journal of Counseling Psychology; well-published author Faynese Miller, PhD; Susan Knapp, APA Publications Director; and Lenore Harmon, PhD, APA Chief Editorial Advisor. A new workshop, 'Getting a Book Published by APA' will be held on Saturday, Aug. 15, noon?1:50 p.m. (Golden Gate 2A, Marriott). Presenters include Linda F. Campbell, PhD, University of Georgia (Athens, Ga.); Julia Frank-McNeil, director of APA Books; and Mary Lynn Skutley, manager, APA Books acquisition and development. The workshop will provide a practical guide to book publishing with APA from conceptualization to finished product. Presenters will walk participants through each step of the publishing process, and a 45-minute question-and-answer period will follow. Hearing APA authors Participants interested in learning what?s current in APA books may wish to attend specific sessions where authors and editors will be presenting. Jonathan Sandoval ('Test Interpretation and Diversity,' off-press in October) will chair the symposium, 'Test Interpretation and Diversity?Achieving Equity in Psychological Assessment,' Aug. 14, 10?10:50 a.m. (Room 250, Moscone Center-South Building). Fred Friedberg and Leonard A. Jason ('Understanding Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: An Empirical Guide to Assessment and Treatment') will discuss this topic at a continuing-education workshop, Aug. 15, 2?5:50 p.m. (Corintia Room, Parc Fifty Five Hotel). Linda J. Beckman and S. Marie Harvey ('The New Civil War: The Psychology, Culture, and Politics of Abortion') will cover this topic at the symposium, 'Abortion in the U.S.?Psychological, Social and Political Contexts,' Aug. 16, 1?2:50 p.m. (Pacific Heights Room, Palace Hotel). Seth C. Kalichman ('Understanding AIDS: Advances in Research and Treatment') will present his research on 'Homeless men, crack cocaine, and risk for HIV infection' at the symposium, 'HIV/AIDS in the Homeless,' Aug. 17, 3?4:50 p.m., (Pacific Heights Room, Palace Hotel). PsycINFO staffers Charlotte D?Orsaneo and Eva Winer will conduct PsycINFO sessions on electronic search techniques on Friday, Aug. 14 (Rooms 274/276, Moscone Center-South Building). 'Getting started with PsycINFO on APA?s member services web site' 3?3:50 p.m., will acquaint members with the database service for members and basic search techniques.
